With the mercury reaching a balmy 24c+ on the Isle of Wight, families have been heading to the seaside today (Monday) resulting in 2 separate missing children reports.
The first call for help came in at around 13:00 when a child was reported missing on the beach at Ryde, prompting a response from Police and HM Coastguard. However, within a very short space of time the missing child had been found and reunited with their family.
Just over an hour and a half later, at 14:40, Ryde Inshore Rescue and Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked to another report, this time of 2 missing children at Appley Beach.
With the long stretch of sand being the busiest it has been for quite some time the search was set to be a challenging one. Thankfully, both children were located safe and well shortly after Ryde Rescue 2 Lifeboat was launched.
Top tips for families heading to the beach:
- Write your phone number on your child’s hand
- Take a seaside snap – a photo of what your child is wearing will help if they go missing
- When you arrive at the beach, identify your surroundings so that if your child wanders off they will find their way back
- Stay calm – updated to 20 can go missing on just 1 beach on a summer’s day. Most children are found quickly
- If you’re child goes missing find a lifeguard or call 999 and ask for the Coastguard
