Ryde Carnival’s Main Parade will follow a different route tonight after (Thursday) an emergency road closure by Southern Water forced organisers to make last-minute changes.
Organisers have confirmed that the usual parade route can no longer be used as a result of the closure of St John’s Hill due to a sinkhole.
The Carnival Main Parade will instead start and finish at Dover Street.
From there, the procession will travel along Park Road, Star Street, High Street and Union Street before heading onto the Esplanade and returning to Dover Street.

The revised route means the parade will miss out a section of the Esplanade that would normally form part of the event.
Those taking part are also being advised of a change to the assembly arrangements.
The assembly area will now be located along The Strand, with all participants required to approach via East Hill Road before turning into The Strand.
Ryde Carnival organisers say they are hopeful that the usual parade route can be reinstated for the Illuminated Carnival on Saturday 5th September, although this will depend on the road closures.
Those planning to attend or take part are being encouraged to keep an eye on Ryde Carnival’s social media channels for further updates.
