UPDATED: MEDICAL EMERGENCY SEES AIR AMBULANCE CALLED TO MERSTONE

The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been scrambled to the outskirts of Merstone this afternoon (Thursday) in response to an ongoing medical emergency in the area. Having left their Thruxton base at around 14:20, the green and yellow liveried helicopter made the trip south, crossing over the Solent and onto Merstone. Upon circling the locality for a minute or so as it descended, the helicopter landed in a field off East Lane near a group of industrial units at Perreton Farm at around 14:40. Flying medics have joined blue light colleagues from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service in tending to the casualty. It’s understood the ambulance service initially responded at around 14:15. UPDATE @ 15:45 – The casualty has been conveyed by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital. It’s understood the male has sustained 2 broken legs after an engine and gearbox fell on him.
