Those travelling to and from the Isle of Wight via Yarmouth face continued disruption today (Thursday) as Wightlink cancels a number of sailings.
A mechanical issue has forced the change in timetable, with no less than 13 crossings cancelled today alone.
The troubles first started yesterday when a number of afternoon and evening sailings were pulled at the last minute.
Wightlink has confirmed that the 07:25, 06:45, 14:00, 16:00, 17:00 and 18:55 sailings from Lymington have been pulled, alongside the 08:30, 10:45, 13:05, 15:05, 17:05, 18:05 and 19:45 sailings from Yarmouth.
The cross-Solent operator says it is sorry for any changes to your travel plans.
It’s understood that one of the ferries has been sent to Falmouth for an annual refit, leaving the service short.
DISGUSTING how is this allowed how are people meant to get to and from work and deliveries to be made. Totally out of control that company
once again wightlink making people’s lives harder, why don’t they be honest and say they are just saving money and not blaming technical issues
Is the problem with the spare boat? It was used on the 29th for 1 return journey. Planned refit for Light mechanical issue for Sky? Will it now be a start of a 1 boat service for the winter.
If one boat is in for a refit, surely that was planned maintenance? So how can they blame the cancellations on mechanical issue? (as in unforeseen)
My guess is now the island has quietened down a bit they don’t have the full ferries they yearn for so they just cut the service…
Unfortunately, Wight Link and Red Funnel have the monopoly, they can do as they please when it comes to service.
We have no other options, we are stuck with them, regardless of customer service, they can do as they please and they know it…
My own experience of WightLink is that it is an arrogant and extremely dishonest organisation. Dont believe any of the big screens saying that everything is on time. It’s time for the local MP to do something about this and arrange some kind of covenant or rulebook to which they have to adhere or face heavy financial penalties. These cancellations cause enormous disruption on a regular basis and yet Wightlink just shrugs it’s shoulders…effective maintenance planning along with preventive maintenance could prevent a lot of this, but is normally one of the first corners to be cut. Just like the debacle with the floating bridge in Cowes.
Don’t want one, but seems a fixed link (or the threat of one) is needed to put these monkeys out of business.
Rather have a refit and check over than have that sinking feeling
Instead of buying industrial property, why havnt our idiot council bought a controlling share in the ferries over the years? Just a thought.
These companies Wightlink,Red Funnel,Hover are NOT a luxury for tourists, they are an essential service for an Island community, MP and Council need to do something about it ASAP.
