Yarmouth Lifeboat responded at speed to reports of 10 people on board a sinking vessel off Alum Bay yesterday evening (Sunday).
Shortly before 18:00, reports were received by Solent Coastguard that a vessel was taking on water off the West Wight, with some of the 10 people on board in the water.
Volunteers onboard Yarmouth’s All Weather Lifeboat made best speed to the scene, whilst colleagues from The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team took up a visual vantage point on the shore.
Thankfully, the lifeboat was soon able to confirm that all persons were accounted for and pumping of the casualty vessel was underway.
The boat was later towed to Lymington.
Should give credit to the crews of local boats Summer Rose and Rambling Rose which I believe are the Alum bay tourist boats which were first on the scene, took aboard several persons from the casualty and got a line aboard: the skipper was excellent with comms on VHF and provided immediate assistance before the CG and Yarmouth Lifeboat were on scene! job well done!
