PICTURE GALLERY: The forecast heavy rain was no where to be seen this afternoon (Saturday) as the second Mardi Gras parade brought sunshine to the streets of Ryde.
Thousands of spectators took to the streets as the Brazil themed carnival set off from Ryde School, down through the High Street and to a spectacular finish at Ryde Esplanade.
To celebrate the World Cup and forthcoming Olympic Games in Rio, organisers The New Carnival Company arranged for special guests The London School of Samba to appear in the parade, presenting drummers and traditional costumes including ‘Passistas’ – the iconic feathered and bikinied dancers typically associated with Rio Carnival.
Over 750 adults, children and young people representing 25 schools and community groups took part in the parade displaying their fabulous costume creation.
Rex, the King of Carnival, took pride of place riding the fattened bull, leading the waves of vibrant costumes, dancers and music.
