A Newport man will be sentenced this Summer for owning a dangerously out of control dog after the animal caused serious injuries to a carer at a Freshwater care facility last year.
Jason Turner, 51, of Lugley Street in Newport, previously denied the charge when he appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court in March. He had been accused of being the owner or person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control, causing injury.
The incident occurred on 21st August 2024 at The Gouldings in Freshwater. It was alleged that Turner’s French Mastiff, named Winnie, bit a female member of staff, resulting in life-changing injuries to her face.
At a plea and trial preparation hearing held at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on 28th April, Turner changed his plea to guilty – on a basis.
The case has now been adjourned for sentencing, which is due to take place at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on 4th July.
