ELDERLY MALE SUFFERS SERIOUS BURNS DURING HOUSE FIRE IN SANDFORD

A man has suffered serious burns following a fire at a property in Sandford in the early hours of this morning (Sunday). Emergency service personnel were called to the scene on Shanklin Road at just before 02:00 this morning. It is understood a man has since been taken to St Mary’s Hospital with serious injuries. Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary remain on scene, with paramedics and investigators from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Rescue Service also on scene throughout the morning. Motorists are advised to avoid the area for the time being with emergency service vehicles parked partly on the road. It is unknown how the incident occurred, with further update expected from Police in due course.
