Police, Coastguard Rescue Teams and Bembridge Lifeboat have all responded to concerns for the welfare of a man on the wrong side of the fence at Culver Cliff.
At around 11:30 this morning (Wednesday), emergency services were alerted to concerns for a male who was seen on the cliff edge at Culver Down, between Bembridge and Sandown.
Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge and Ventnor were deployed, alongside Bembridge RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat.
Conditions were reasonably bumpy for the volunteer lifeboat crew, who were tasked to stand off the base of the cliff.
Thankfull, the situation was successfully resolved without injury at just before 12:30.
Emergency teams have now stood down from the incident.
Didn’t we have a crisis response team on the island. Why didn’t they get called out
Do you mean why are people with severe life threatening depression being neglected by the Mental health professionals to such a degree that they feel their only escape is over a cliff?
…and who can blame them?
Depression is a killer and it’s high time that it was taken seriously.
Luckily today, this poor desperate soul was rescued by the emergency services, from what would of been a devastating permanent outcome.
How many more times is this going to happen because people call the Mental health crisis line and their urgent pleas for help are not taken seriously?
I totally agree with you, unless you suffer from mental health problems you would not have any idea what goes on in mind of someone struggling. I hope the person involved gets the help they so desperately need. Hope the person is now being looked after thinking of you,
thanks for that, very much.yes what a let down the so called mental health here..i was given one yes one tablet when I’m last went to the ..d,ont know what there doing place for help..i did wonder if it was a one off tablet..if u know what is mean .u never know..cuts the waiting list down…pd
Just a number to them. Get it over and done with, be discarded and left to rot, same way as prisoners languishing in prison cells.
No rehabilitation, money wasted on keeping them banged up 23 hours a day, when It could be put to much more constructive use to rehabilitate offenders.
They wonder why history repeats itself when the offender finds themselves back in court after release?? Then the person gets punished once again. Punished but not rehabilitated, never solving the core root of the problem.
The unfading stress of having a Crown Court case hanging over your head for a year like I did after an unforeseen accident with my dog, being treated like some terrible criminal, being trolled on social media.. when all I wanted to do was die anyway because my mental suffering was so unbearable due to the loss of my beloved Rusty.
Some government eh?
I could do a much better job of running the country myself. Another example of catastrophic failure is the UK sanctioning Russia, to impose financial penalties, only to hang itself. All because of one barbaric and sadistic murdering little man. No wonder people are suffering from acute stress and breakdowns.
Life is precious and much too short for these constant catalogues of failures. Innocent lives lost, including those which have barely even begun, animals being harmed that cannot understand, all because one vile little man wants to wreak havoc on the innocent to achieve what HE wants.
This is a crazily cruel world which we find ourselves living in and there are no certainties.
No wonder our mental health is crumbling under the strain.
The Government’s have a lot to answer for with their shocking conduction of themselves.
One day hopefully, the truth will emerge on how fundamentally damaging those pills they dole out like smarties these days, actually are to brain function.Sledgehammers to crack a nut,for want of a better expression, but very profitable of course for the usual suspects. The real elephant in the room being the superior benefits of CBD which is our planets greatest healer;and has been for centuries- and l don’t mean the useless concoctions from high street vendors which has nowhere near the appropriate CBD/THC ratios that make it effective (known as the entourage effect)
The real medical-grade variant is only available on private prescription at extortionate rates of exchange, but try to grow your own or take a punt from street dealers and you’re a criminal…for wanting to manage physical or mental distress.
Beam me up Scotty.
100% agree, The Mental health CRISIS line is not really fit for purpose.
AND IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHO IS ON DUTY WHEN PICKING UP THE PHONE.
( And what mood there in ! )
Yep you’ve got it. Couldn’t of been described more accurately, whilst meanwhile people are STILL losing their lives.
I expect the staff at the end of the line have never even suffered the devastating effects of mental illness.
The problem is that these people get PAID for their negligence!
If somebody walks into a shop and steals a Mars bar or a packet of crisps, the police are there like a shot, the person gets arrested and prosecuted, a grand old fuss is made about it, but when someone DIES through their negligence, the people who are guilty of it remain free to carry on living their easy little lives, regardless of the fact that they have blood on their hands!
Where’s the JUSTICE in THAT?!
When WILL they sit up and listen?
When WILL things change?
Yep you would do better talking to a brick wall.
‘their’
Reading the comments with interest below from people who just out of prison, drug addicts and people about to go in to prison for diving offences.
I would say that the mental health services on the Island are bogged down with too many people looking to play the mental health card to obtain PIP and to avoid court offences (drug/ drink driving/ violence etc). I feel people with genuine needs are supported by caring staff undertaking an impossible job.
I see these comments and am saddened by it. People who know nothing of the truth of these matters , sitting on a keyboard making it all up to feel important . Why let the truth get in the way of a good story eh?
