A man in his 30s has suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car on a main road in Calbourne last night (Saturday).
As previously reported by Island Echo, emergency services crews were called to the B3401, near the junction with Sun Hill, at around 22:15 after reports a pedestrian had been struck by a car.
The collision involved a Mitsubishi Colt and saw the male suffer such serious injuries that the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was called to the scene.
As a result of the collision, the road was blocked for some time.
After tending to the casualty on the ground, the air ambulance flew the male directly to the Major Trauma Unit at Southampton General Hospital where they are receiving treatment for the injuries sustained.
The casualty remains in hospital at this time.
That road must have some of the worst speed freaks on this island. It has a lot of bends, and no footpaths. Walking on it in daylight is dangerous enough. I do hope the pedestrian was wearing visible, protective clothing, and that he is not too badly injured.
Drivers on the island are viewed as adults, yet really they need to be policed like children,…There out of control showing no respect for others, do we ever grow up???…
