MAN IN HIS 90s DIES FOLLOWING FATAL HOUSE FIRE IN SANDFORD

A man is his 90s has passed away in hospital following a fire at a property in Sandford in the early hours of this morning (Sunday). Emergency service personnel – including pumping appliances from Shanklin, Newport and Cowes were called to the scene on Shanklin Road at just after 02:00 following reports of a house fire. Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus used a single hose reel jet to extinguish the fire inside the residential address. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that a man in 90s was taken to St Mary’s Hospital, where he was treated for burns, but he has since sadly passed away. Another casualty was also taken to hospital, their injuries are unknown. Investigators from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are currently at the scene in Sandford working to establish how the fatal fire started. There is no obvious signs of damage to the property. A file is being prepared for the coroner.
