A man has suffered catastrophic leg injuries after a boat fell on and crushed his leg in Cowes.
Emergency teams were summoned to a boatyard off Cowes High Street following the incident last week, which saw the man suffer major trauma as part of the vessel – thought to be the keel – slammed down upon his limb.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, along with multiple police units, responded to the scene where the attendance of specialist flying doctors was requested.
As previously reported by Island Echo, the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance made a swift descent into the lawns of Northwood Park last Monday (27th September), where its team and medical equipment was offloaded and transported to the boatyard.
The casualty was stabilised by medics before being transferred to the helicopter and flown to the Major Trauma Centre in Southampton for treatment at around 15:30.
The incident has been passed to the Health and Safety Executive.
An HSE spokesperson has said:
“We’re aware of the incident and making initial enquiries.”
