A 29-year-old Sandown man who was arrested yesterday (Wednesday) in connection with a stabbing in Ventnor on Saturday night has been released with no further action to be taken.
As first reported by Island Echo, officers were called to a premises on the High Street, Ventnor at around 23:00 on Saturday (23rd July) following reports that a man had been stabbed behind the address.
The victim, a man in his 20s, was taken to St Mary’s Hospital with superficial stab wounds – believed to be to his stomach and leg.
Yesterday, an unnamed 29-year-old was arrested at Newport Police Station and questioned on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
However, Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed to Island Echo that the individual will face no further action in relation to the matter.
A spokesperson has said:
“Following a number of enquiries, including speaking to witnesses and reviewing CCTV, and in consultation with the victim in this case, a decision has been made to release the 29-year-old man from Sandown with no further action”.

It sounds like the “no arson” verdict all over again, this time “no stabbing” When will the police grow some and start acting like police should be.
Grow some and do what, exactly? If no crime has been committed, then no crime has been committed.
Beware what you wish for. One day it may be YOU who ends up being arrested having to prove self defense.
Though I suppose you’d be true the “chicken” part of your name and run away.
But a crime WAS committed. Someone WAS stabbed. I suppose it could be a strange situ where someone stabbed themself but I doubt it. More likely the person is now too scared to name the perpetrator. Fear silences. Police won’t action. I suppose we await for the next story – possibly more deadly outcome next time? I hope not.
Obviously the victim did not want to press charges.
The island is a very small place.
