A man arrested on suspicion of attempting to murder his wife at their family home in Binstead yesterday (Monday) remains in hospital, Island Echo can reveal.
Investigations into Monday’s incident on Newnham Road are continuing with a heavy Police presence still outside the address, with detectives seen coming and going as colleagues maintain a scene guard around the property and 2 vehicles on the driveway.
Forensic examiners from the mainland arrived in Binstead late yesterday afternoon and have been taking swabs and photographs from inside the home to help piece together the shocking events, which have left a woman with serious head injuries.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Armed Police descended on the usually quiet residential road at around 11:15 following reports of a serious assault.
Witnesses have told Island Echo that a woman was seen to be bleeding profusely, with armed officers calling for a male inside the address to put down a weapon and open the front door.
The road was sealed off as Police isolated the threat and made the scene safe to allow paramedics to move in. The Thames Valley Air Ambulance was also scrambled to the scene but was stood down whilst overhead.
Medics tended to the injured female and conveyed her to St Mary’s Hospital, with medical attention also given to the male suspect. He was placed in a neck brace and handcuffs before also being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital under Police escort.
Hampshire Constabulary has not yet commented on the specifics of the injuries sustained and whether a weapon was involved. They have, however, confirmed that the attempted murder suspect remains under arrest in hospital.

Likely his short stay in hospital will be less than his sentence
Hope the wife makes a full speedy recovery
And the alleged pet dog
Neck brace … yeah one step nearer to bringing back hanging
