2 fires thought to have been malicious set have been prevented from spreading and successfully extinguished in Ryde this afternoon (Easter Monday).
Ryde’s day crewed appliance was mobilised to reports of a small fire in the woods, with the crew arriving on scene to find a pile of wood alight.
Firefighters’ suspicions were quickly raised when a second fire was then located less than 100m away.
Fortunately, there was a stream directly next to the fires so several buckets of water were used to quickly extinguish the 2 small fires, both of which are suspected of being maliciously set.
If you see a fire in the countryside, contact the fire service immediately on 999. Do not attempt to tackle fires that cannot be put out with a bucket of water.
Remember, do not discard cigarettes or other smoking materials in the countryside. It is also important to clear away bottles, glasses and any broken glass to avoid them magnifying the sun and starting a fire.
Always take extra care if using a barbecue and only light fires or BBQs in designated areas. Never leave a campfire or BBQ unattended and extinguish them properly after you have finished using them.

Another mindless moron with nothing better to do on a lovely holiday afternoon. Whoever you are you need to think of children that could have been playing nearby and had that spread been terrified ! I suppose you never thought of the risk to firefighters lives either
Of course they have thought about all of that – and that’s precisely why they did it.
That’s the problem they don’t think !!!!!
They have not got a brain cell between them !!!!
Shame the parents don’t know where or what their little A – – – h—-s are up to????.
If located they should be made to realise the consequences of their stupid actions…
Someone could die or be seriously injured because they are bored !!!!
What about the wildlife as well ???.
And heaven forbid their house was on fire whilst our fire service is dealing with their stupidity….
Where does it say it was children though?
Where does it say it wasn’t ?
Not sure where this is, but would it make a nice building plot? If so there will be more fires.
When I was young, I used to make dens and camps, and sometimes a little fire.
Never done me no harm.
Better then computer games, and not going out in the fresh air.
During the war, my parents used to play on bomb sites.
Some people nowadays are scared of their own shadows.
That all sounds great, but did you leave fires you set unattended, did you leave them burning when you went home ??
Sorry, Ting tong, your comment here is irrelevant.
These aren’t properly attended camp fires, these are malicious attempts at causing very serious damage.
This is arson.
Really…..?
Yes, they are going to build lots of tree house’s. Idiot.
You are a nasty bitter little person arnt you. I was simply raising a question as to what might happen to the land.
We all know what happens to empty hotels on this island, mysterious fires followed by planning applications.
Damaged woodland, cleared for safety concerns etc?
But hey ho, just let your bitter lonely brain cell get in the way.
Amazing isn’t it? As soon as the sun comes out, the brain sozzled lowlife smack heads start making fires.
Really ? You can’t really blame them for trying to keep warm (and the nature).
When they can’t even afford to put the kettle on for a chicken n mushroom pot noodle.
Double standards, me thinks….!
There are some sick minded people living on this planet, carry one like this and it is a one way path for those involved. Hope you’re prepared for a life that awaits. Why don’t you try being a human being instead of something people tread in.
Please leave “old school” out of it.
He sounds like an older fella who don’t know no better.
And talking for myself, I am ASHAMED to be a Human being. Nothing but a cockroach on this beautiful planet.
Ps you sound like a joahova….
very selfish and warped view of the world and life in general.
Ashamed of yourself? yep, you should be.
