The main road between Lake and Shanklin has been closed this lunchtime (Sunday) as emergency services tend to a member of the public who has collapsed.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are working alongside colleagues from Hampshire Constabulary on Sandown Road, close to the junction with Green Lane/Cemetery Road.
It’s understood Police officers who happened to be passing the scene were the first medical responders to arrive, commencing CPR.
Motorists are being diverted via Green Lane and via Whitecross Lane to/from Shanklin.
Southern Vectis says it’s Route 2 and 3 buses are diverting locally.
UPDATE @ 12:57 – The patient is being rushed by land ambulance to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport, escorted by Police.
Sandown Road has now re-opened in both directions.
