Police have closed Place Road in Cowes this morning (Wednesday) as a result of a single vehicle road traffic collision.
A Ford Transit Luton van has collided with a lamp post, causing front end damage to the vehicle.
The crash occurred sometime before 05:30.
No one has been seriously injured in the early morning incident with the male driver given the all clear by paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
No arrests have been made and it has been confirmed that no other vehicles have been involved.
Island Roads engineers are in attendance to make safe the damaged street furniture, which is listing to one side.
Southern Vectis Route 1 buses are diverting.
UPDATE @ 06:45 – Place Road has now re-opened in both directions following recovery of the van by Stag Lane Motors.
Southern Vectis buses are return to their normal route.




























































































5.30am such a busy time of day
At that time of day all I see is green lights lol.
I just can’t believe, or understand how or why nobody seems to get prosecuted for ‘driving without due care and attention’, these days…..
That usually only happens if someone else is injured. Some years ago I had a car written off by a dumper truck in traffic controlled roadworks. The driver admitted “I never saw you” but escaped prosecution because ” no-one was injured”. Saved a lot of paperwork. Insurance covers the damage to the street furniture
That would require the government spending our tax money on us and making the roads safe with proper policing.
