Isle of Wight photographer Jamie Russell, from Shanklin, has seen his photo of a double rainbow over Bembridge Lifeboat Station named The Public Favourite in this year’s Royal Meteorological Society Weather Photographer of the Year competition.
The shortlisted images were put to a public vote, with almost 5,500 votes cast for the 22 finalists representing 15 countries. Clinching The Public Favourite title was ‘Departing Storm Over Bembridge Lifeboat Station’, taken by Russell who runs Island Visions Photography and IW Met Service.
His submission showed the storm – complete with a double rainbow – above the lifeboat station in Bembridge – a photo that the 44-year-old weather forecaster waded into waist-deep water to take.
The overall winner has been revealed as well-known UK photographer Christopher Ison with his photo of Storm Eunice taken at Newhaven. Meanwhile, the Young Weather Photographer of the Year has been named as 17-year-old Eris Pil from Pennsylvasnia in the US.
The calendar featuring Jamie, and all the winners and finalists of Weather Photographer of the Year 2022 is now on pre-sale via the RMetS online shop.
