Southern Vectis is marking International Women’s Day today (Wednesday) by celebrating the work and careers of some of its rising stars.
The Isle of Wight bus operator is proud of its diverse workforce, and actively encourages women to build successful careers within the transport industry.
Southern Vectis managing director, Andrew Wickham, said:
“In the past, our industry has been largely dominated by men, but that is fast changing, as we look to recruit the very best talent – and gender just doesn’t come into that decision process
“Those wishing to join our team can choose from a wide range of roles – from driver to marketing or engineering – and each offers its own mix of challenges and rewards.”
In 2017, 65 women worked for Southern Vectis in a variety of roles. In 2023, this figure increased to 74.
With 256 employees in total, the bus operator’s workforce is now 28.9% female.
Southern Vectis driver, Georgina Rogers, who is this week celebrating International Women’s Day with some of her driver colleagues, added:
“I joined Southern Vectis in 2019, and I have seen a change in the attitude people – both colleagues and customers – have towards women bus drivers.
“It’s great that the number of my female colleagues has increased in an industry that, in the past, has been strongly dominated by male drivers and engineers. However, ultimately, it’s not about your gender, it’s about the way you do your job. I would love to see more women choose to join Southern Vectis – but most important is the attitude my colleagues have towards their work, irrespective of gender.”
Well done girls. 🙂 Show the misogynists how wrong they are. Women are the safest drivers, it’s fact!
And National Men’s Day is when exactly??

A simple Google of “when is international men’s day” would have revealed this and saved you much embarrassment.
The reason people are unaware of men’s day is because unlike women’s day, it isn’t highlighted in the media or celebrated like women’s day. It comes and goes without any celebration or acknowledgement of mens achievements or issues. The fact you had to google it proves that. Maybe the embarrassment is yours?
How did you derive that I needed to Google about International Men’s day merely because I told Julian that He should have?
Honestly, the critical thinking skills around here are lamentable.

If we can be bothered
Don’t like the woman 3rd from the right. She drove straight past me and my partner when we had been waiting for an hour in the rain. She stopped at the “out of order” bus stop then drove straight past us waiting at the temporary stop 30m away. She was staring at us all the time!
And to top it off it was the school run so couldn’t get a taxi for another hour
That’s doubtful…..she isn’t part of the driving team.
