Philip Bell, local author and publisher at Beachy Books, will be reading his latest children’s book Jack and Boo’s Dinosaur Island, along with other books in his Island-based series of children’s books, at Ryde Library on Saturday (8th February) to celebrate National Libraries Day.
Philip will be reading to children from 11:00-12:00 and signed copies of his Jack and Boo books will be available to buy at a reduced price. Philip is passionate about libraries and has donated copies of his books to the Island libraries.
Phillip said:
“My family and I regularly use the libraries. We try to go every week and borrow books and DVDs. Sometimes it’s hard to get my kids out of the library when they find a good book and a comfy beanbag.”
“I used to go to the library loads as a child, mostly in search of books for school projects. I have even worked as a library assistant years ago, in a small village library on the mainland where they had the old card systems. I remember getting a strange satisfaction out of learning the Dewey system— the numbers that help organise the books by subject — and then putting returned books back into the shelves while I daydreamed about story ideas.”
National Libraries Day is run by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (NLD).
Barbara Brand, CILIP president said:
“Now in its third year National Libraries Day 2014 is set to be the most exciting celebration of libraries and library staff yet. The week leading up to the 8th and the Saturday itself sees a huge range of events and activities raising the profile of the positive impact library and information services make on society – building literacy skills, developing a love of reading and sharing knowledge.”
