A special, limited-time fare which means Southern Vectis passengers can travel anywhere on the Island for £2 or less is now in operation, continuing for the next 3 months.
As previously reported by Island Echo, bus users locally can now benefit from a special scheme allowing them to travel on any single journey across the Island for £2 or less this winter, in a move designed to help Islanders with travel costs for work, education, shopping and medical treatments at a time of pressure from the rising cost of living.
It means a journey from Ryde to Newport and back again will cost just £4 instead of the usual £7.20, for example.
There are no restrictions on the payment method that can be used, but the £2 fare cap does not apply to the Needles Breezer service.
It comes as a result of Southern Vectis signing up to the Department for Transport (DfT) scheme, which will be in place from 1st January until 31st March 2023.
Andrew Wickham, Southern Vectis’ managing director, has said:
“With fuel costs high, it is an extra incentive for local people to ease their cost of living by leaving their cars at home and opting for sustainable transport instead.
‘We’re looking forward to welcoming many new customers on-board over the coming months”.

Southern vectis won’t lose a penny, as its DfT funded, which essentially means the tax payer will fund it
Apparently other counties are doing the same, perhaps at the end of March SV will revise their charges pre 2023 and make the bus ride popular again.
Those hard working shareholders sorely need our tax money!
Well it looks good so I feel if you want to get people on buses you need to be cheaper than cars but £3.80 single to Newport from Wootton is not affordable and those bud drivers who can’t get the rear of the bus parallel to the bus stop need to try harder
Should have kept the small white mini buses that used to run around all the estates through Newport and outer areas. They were well used.
The huge, virtually EMPTY Double Decker’s are just wasting fuel and blocking roads I just don’t understand what they can not see.
Although it initially sounds good, it’s £2 per leg of a journey. So, if you wanted to go, for example, from Ryde to Cowes, it will be £4 each way, as you have to change buses in Newport. Prior to this you could get through tickets between any two destinations, but not now, or, at least, not for £2 as the initial stories seemed to suggest.
Then get the through ticket which is cheaper
