Reports of a person in the water and possibly cut off by the tide at Ryde led to the launch of Bembridge RNLI Lifeboat earlier this morning (Sunday).
Bembridge RNLI’s Inshore Lifeboat was requested to launch at around 08:30 when Solent Coastguard was made aware of a person in difficulty on Ryde Sands, to the north of Springvale.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team was also mobilised to the scene.
The lifeboat arrived at Ryde Sands at 08:47 but was soon stood down as it transpired that the casualty was in fact an angler who was not in any trouble – although the tide was quickly rising.
The incident is being tested as a false alarm with good intent.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.
