This is your weekly round-up of some of the latest court cases heard at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court.

Monday 28th March – Friday 1st April 2022
• William James Davies, 21, of Fairmount Drive in Newport, pleaded guilty to speeding – namely 59mph in a 40mph limit. He was fined £120 and handed 5 points on his licence, as well as being ordered to pay a £34 surcharge.
• Andrew John Smith, 61, of Gobles Close in Ryde, pleaded guilty to breaching a restraining order – harassment. An existing community order with revoked with a new 12-month order put in place with 25 rehabilitation days attached. He was also fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £95 surcharge.
• Sean Feeney, 28, of Forest Way in Winford, pleased guilty to harassment without violence and using threatening/abusive/insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment/alarm/distress. He was handed a 12-month community order with 25 rehabilitation days attached. He was also handed a 2-month curfew between the hours of 20:00-06:00. Feeney was also handed a 12-month restraining order and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £95 surcharge.
• Warren Russell, 38, pleaded guilty to multiple thefts from shops. He was imprisoned for a total of 16 weeks following activation of a suspended sentence (12 weeks).
• Levi Stevens, 20, of Sassoon Place in Waterlooville, pleaded guilty to drink driving (81) and failing to stop after an accident. He was disqualified from driving for 20 months and made subject to a 12-month community order with 10 rehabilitation days and 150 hours of unpaid work. He was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £95 surcharge.
• Ruth Cheeseman, 64, of Smithards Lane in Cowes, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a community protection notice. She was fined £100 and ordered to pay £325 costs with a £34 surcharge.
• Simon McMahon, 57, of Trinity Road in Ventnor, pleaded guilty to assault by beating, harassment without violence, criminal damage and disclose/threaten to disclose private sexual photographs and films with intent to cause distress. He was made subject to a 12-month community order with 25 rehabilitation days attached and also a 12-month restraining order. He was ordered to pay £300 compensation.
• Dylan Kemp, 27, of Barton Road in Newport, pleaded guilty to common assault, criminal damage and using threatening/abusive/insulting words/behaviour to cause harassment/alarm/distress. He was handed a 12-month community order with 25 rehabilitation days attached. He was also ordered to pay £250 compensation as well as £85 costs and a £95 surcharge.
• Ross Minter, 44, of Whitcombe Road in Carisbrooke, pleaded guilty to 2 counts of theft from a shop. He was ordered to pay £110 compensation.
• Elliott Hegarty, 36, of Fitzroy Street in Sandown, pleaded guilty to theft from a shop. He was fined £40 and ordered to pay £5.50 compensation, as well as a £34 surcharge.
• Rachel Hewitt, 38, of Angelica Grove in Newport, pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods. She was made subject to a 12-month community order with 10 rehabilitation days attached and a 6-month drug rehabilitation programme. She was ordered to pay costs of just £5 and a surcharge of £95.
• Teal Howitt, 21, of Mitchelle Avenue in Ventnor, pleased guilty to possession of a Class B drug – cannabis. A 12-month conditional discharge was given with an order to pay £85 costs.
