This is your weekly round-up of some of the latest court cases heard at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court.

Monday 21st March – Friday 25th March 2022
• Tony Byron Rollins, Buckland Road in Teddington, Middlesex admitted failing to comply with the community requirement of a suspended sentence imposed by the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on 18th November 2021, by failing to attend unpaid work. The suspended sentence – for driving whilst disqualified and dangerous driving – was varied to 18 months, suspended for 18 months, with 210 hours of unpaid work.
• Martyn Steven Lockett, 35, of Nelson Road in Newport, pleaded guilty to drink driving (64), driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance and driving whilst using a hand-held mobile telephone. He was disqualified from driving for 42 months and made subject to a 12-month community order with 10 rehabilitation days and 150 hours of unpaid work. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £95 surcharge.
• Shane Wareham, 37, of Furrlongs in Newport, pleaded guilty to drug driving (cocaine). He was disqualified from driving for 12 months, fined £300 and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £34 surcharge.
• Kaylan Halliday, 25, of Sandown Road in Shanklin, pleaded guilty to taking a vehicle without consent, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and driving without insurance. He was disqualified from driving for 8 months and handed a 12-month community order with 15 rehabilitation days and 60 hours of unpaid work. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £95 surcharge.
• Brian Bailey, 45, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to possession of a Class B drug – cannabis. He was given a 6-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay a £22 surcharge.
• Harvey Biggington, 28, of Monkton Street in Ryde, pleaded guilty to assault by beating of an emergency worker and obstructing/resisting a constable in the execution of their duty. He was given a 12-month community order with 100 hours of unpaid work attached. He was also ordered to pay £50 compensation, costs of £85 and a £95 surcharge.
• James Scott, 34, care of Whitecliff Bay Holiday Park in Bembridge, was found guilty in his absence of driving without insurance. He was fined £576 and handed 6 penalty points, as well as being ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £58 surcharge. The court found that there would be an adverse effect on the defendant’s mother obtaining medical treatment and the employees of the defendant’s business are likely to lose their jobs if the defendant were to be disqualified.
• Beverley Morris, 31, of Wilton Park Road in Shanklin, pleaded guilty to drink driving (98) and failing to surrender to bail. She was disqualified from driving for 28 months and made subject to a 12-month community order with 30 rehabilitation days, as well as being fined £80 and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £95 surcharge.
• Matthew Lewendon, of Fort Street in Sandown, pleaded guilty to possession of a Class A drug (diamorphine) and possession of a Class B drug (cannabis). He was handed an 18-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay a £22 surcharge.
• Malcolm Biggin, 79, of Colwell Road in Freshwater, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with the notification requirements of the Sex Offenders Register. He was fined £307 and ordered to pay costs of £85 with a £34 surcharge.
• Kai Hallett, 24, of Egerton Road in Bembridge, pleaded guilty to drink driving (64). He was banned from driving for 18 months, fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £34 surcharge.
