Isle of Wight-based Ellen MacArthur Foundation has confirmed that it has placed 17 local job roles at risk of redundancy.
The news of job cuts comes as part of a significant organisational restructure aimed at taking the circular economy from concept to large-scale implementation.
The internationally renowned charity says it will now concentrate its work on 3 core missions – plastics and packaging, critical minerals, and retail – where it believes the circular economy can make the biggest impact on urgent global issues such as climate change, waste, and pollution.
The Foundation says that by focusing its efforts behind these missions, it will reduce its broad-based promotion and education work and instead work more directly with specific sectors. As a result, some roles have been put at risk, with a 30-day consultation period now underway.
It has been confirmed to Island Echo that a total of 32 jobs across the UK are at risk, including 17 here on the Isle of Wight, 6 in London and 9 remote workers. The Foundation says it recognises this will be a difficult time for employees and that it is committed to supporting those affected by the proposed changes.
Despite the shake-up, the Ellen MacArthur Foundation has reassured staff and the local community that the Isle of Wight will remain its headquarters and continue to play an important role in its work.
The news comes just hours after Island Echo reported that The National Trust is also set to cut a number of jobs on the Isle of Wight.
Jonquil Hackenberg, CEO of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, has said:
“The Foundation has built an unrivalled Network at the most senior level of global business and government. Now leading businesses are asking us to go to the next level and help them address the systemic barriers that block progress today. Everyone recognises that the playbook needs to evolve to meet the size of the challenge, but we are uniquely positioned to set, then activate, the agenda for circular, at-scale solutions with our signature creativity and collaboration, with pace.”

This Government have only been in for 1 year
and so many companies are feeling the pressure.
It is only going to get worse.
That’s why tou don’t vote Labour. Higher taxes, woke funding and dei policies are priority for this government which then forces higher prices , higher interest rates and then inflation. Government spending without a product causes Inflation thus forcing price increases and job losses. More people then go on benefits causing more spending etc. The woke idea of More socialist government gets closer and closer
That’s some garbage corporate speak from the CEO and Google translate doesn’t help. Any idea what she meant?
My thoughts exactly, had to give up reading half way through as it made no sense. They need some definitions amongst all that jargon but plain English would be better. They must have something to hide.
Yayyyy, another one. Two words, labour government.
I suppose it must be me, but I thought the Foundation was something to do with promoting participation in sailing activities. Obviously wrong.
The word salad statement you quote from the CEO really could do with a translation for the rest of us. Sorry !
