3 choirs joined forces for a special concert in Totland, with around £650 set to be donated to Isle of Wight charity Sophie’s Legacy.
Newchurch Male Voice Choir welcomed Tamworth Ladies Choir and the Mercian Singers to Christ Church, Totland, where the groups performed in front of a large audience.
Each choir presented its own programme of songs before all 3 came together for the finale, performing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.
The concert also featured an unusual opportunity for audience participation when Tamworth Ladies Choir Musical Director Helen Griffiths introduced the ‘Rain Song’.
Rather than being performed through traditional singing, the piece used palms, fingers and the stamping of feet to recreate the changing sounds of rain – from drizzle and heavier rainfall through to thunder.
Audience members were encouraged to get involved, with the unusual performance said to have been happily received by those attending.
A retiring collection was held in aid of Sophie’s Legacy, a charity which supports families with children staying in hospital with personal needs that can easily be forgotten.

“It was a pleasure to receive the request from the Tamworth Ladies Choir that during their visit to the Island for us to sing together.
“We must thank Christ Church for hosting the concert. This unique event, with 3 variations on choir singing in the same concert, was extremely well received.
“Such an event supporting the smaller charities who do such fine work is the choir’s way of saying thank you for being there.
“We will be donating around £650 to Sophie’s Legacy.”
