Jewson, one of the UK’s leading builders’ merchants has announced it plans to open a new ‘Branch of the Future’ in Newport, Isle of Wight.
The company finalised a deal earlier this week, agreeing to purchase the land at the former Newport FC ground on Godric Road. Jewson hopes to open the new branch in 2025.
Whilst the exact position of the new site is yet to be confirmed, it is thought to be the same as what fellow builders’ merchant Travis Perkins were eyeing up back in January 2022, as previously reported by Island Echo.
It was just last week that Jewson announced that its Medina Avenue store was to close.
Being proud to partner the trades, the company is committed to serving customers and communities on the Isle of Wight. Jewson’s announcement that it is investing in building a purpose-built branch in Newport is another significant milestone in the company’s transformational journey to provide the products, service and expertise that the UK’s hard-working builders and professional tradespeople need for their projects and to grow their own businesses.
Andy Jordan, Regional Managing Director for Jewson in the South West, said:
“We’re thrilled to announce that we have finalised the contract to purchase the land at Godric Road in Newport, which will allow us to bring our Branch of the Future concept to our valued customers on the Isle of Wight in 2025. We’re committed to the communities living and working on the island and I believe this further major investment is testimony to supporting in every way we can.”
Jewson recently announced the closure of their branch on Medina Avenue, thanking and helping customers impacted to move their business to now be supported by the team at Trafalgar Road, which offers a full and expanding range of products, tool hire service and also a kitchen showroom. The company is now in discussion with the local authorities to determine the best development opportunity for the Medina Avenue site.
Jewson is a significant business within the STARK Building Materials UK portfolio of building merchant brands. Together, they form part of STARK Group, Europe’s leading merchant and distributor of building materials.
