The Isle of Wight Steam Railway has announced that it will be opening the carriage doors for the 2021 season on Monday 12th April – the attraction’s 50th birthday.
From 10:00 on 12th April, the first trains will be running along the track through the Island’s beautiful early spring countryside.
At Havenstreet the refreshment rooms and T-Junction coffee shop will be open serving takeaways throughout the day for visitors to enjoy. The Railway’s Train Story Discovery Centre won’t re-open until 17th May, however.
Steve Backhouse, General Manager, said:
“It’s wonderful to be able to begin planning a full season of train services and events. The 12 April is a particularly significant date for us to open as it’s the actual date of our 50th anniversary. A great way to kick off a golden year of events.
“2020 was a tough year for everyone and we’re glad to be able to get back to some ‘normality’ and we’re all looking forward to being open and running trains again. The railway prides itself in making a visit here enjoyable and safe. We still have safety procedures in place from last year and will continue to implement these”.
Online booking will go live week commencing 15th March. Visit www.iwsteamrailway.co.uk for more information on the railway and also the 2021 events line up including favourites such as
1940s Experience and the Island Steam Show as well as new events to look forward to, including a 1960s weekend.
