Isle of Wight Youth Justice Service (YJS) has received an overall rating of ‘requires improvement’ following an inspection by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation. Officers from the HM Inspectorate of Probation also inspected the quality of resettlement work – the key services which need to be in place when a child is released from custody, for example, to meet accommodation needs – which was separately rated as ‘Good’. Interim Chief Inspector of Probation Sue McAllister said:
“It was a mixed picture for Isle of Wight Youth Justice Service. Staff are committed and determined to improve the lives of children under their supervision, but there are areas we think need to be improved. This includes how the risk of harm a child may pose to others is identified and analysed, and greater input from the management board to lead the service’s future. “We very much look forward to watching them develop and build on our recommendations from this inspection.”
There are services in place to support children involved in substance misuse or with mental health issues, and a clear offer of support for parents or carers. However, inspectors felt the management board needed to ensure there were appropriate services available to help meet children’s diverse needs, particularly their physical health, and speech and language. Inconsistencies were also found in the quality of work across both court work and out-of-court disposals (where children receive support without having to go to court) particularly the areas that focused on the safety and wellbeing of children. It was identified that some staff told inspectors their workloads felt unmanageable at the time of this inspection, and this is something we have asked the YJS to address. A total of 7 recommendations – which they believe will have a positive impact on youth justice services on the Isle of Wight – have been made. This includes recommendations to routinely gather and utilise the views of children and their parents or carers to inform service provision and strengthen management oversight to improve the quality of work with children.
Management should of manipulated figures like done in Children’s Social Service’s and threatened staff with their jobs if they spoke up!. Would of probably got Excellent !.
Well done to brave staff speaking up, hopefully positive changes and reduced cases will improve outcomes.
Too much is wasted on these cretins now.
Most will go on to be costly, troublesome teens, breeding more ‘disturbed’ clones for the next generation to have ‘even more’ cretins to pander to.
Army boot camps, for the older ones, and for the younger cut all benefits to the parent’ or parents, so that they have a ‘reason’ to ensure what they have inflicted upon society is kept on the straight and narrow.
As it is so long as their offspring are out causing mayhem to others they could not care less, for the child has gained them what they wanted, a free home, free c.tax and a good income without having to work, or only do ‘a few hours’ to live better than full time workers.

As you have so correctly pointed out that the problem lies with the parents breeding so many for benefits. Cut off the parents benefits, cut off their offsprings reproduction bits so they can’t burden society for the future, and importantly cut off a limb as a punishment.We are too soft as a nation ~ oh poor little sprog has broken into a house, and assaulted strangers while drunk, it’s OK though because he blames it on his Dad leaving when he was 2 years old.
No excuse, cut his legs off, he can still work with two arms.

Sadly those with normal children think all children could, if given love , care and time turn out okay.
One in a hundred might, but with the parents now using children to gain a free home and lucrative income then there is no way the amount of help can be given to feral benefit children.
The answer is to stop making people better off by having children as, as it is, we are having too many of the wrong sort born now.
Stop their benefits and make them live with their parents if having children
that they cannot afford to have.

With all the government cut backs the service is expected to do more with less. What else would you expect.
