The Isle of Wight Beach Soccer team have won 4 trophies on the bounce after beating Eastleigh on penalties in the final at Bournemouth on Sunday (22nd May).
This time was even more special for captain and manager Caymen Collins, who was missing some key players playing in the Spanish League: most notably goalkeeper Tommy Jackson. Tommy scored on his debut in Spain this weekend and got 2 assists, proving the importance of the goalkeeping position in beach soccer.
Dexter Collins was tasked with taking the number 1 shirt from Jackson. Dexter proved to be a safe pair of hands: agile and on point from the 1st whistle.
Captain Caymen called upon the youth ranks, who had competed in the Madjer Cup previously at 2 world youth events. It was those players who secured victory against Joe Maxwell’s strong and experienced Eastleigh side.
Spurred on by the leadership and fight of Caymen and Jack Morris, the Isle of Wight never gave up despite going 3-1 down. The Island battled back with goals from Thomas Grandvoinet and Callum Pye-Poulter.
Eastleigh had looked to have the trophy in their hands, but the Isle of Wight stole the show, equalizing in the final minute and winning the final on penalties. Caymen Collins scored the final penalty kick to secure the title and his 4th championship trophy for the Isle of Wight.
