Warrant Officer Class One Neil Scott was 1 of 5 Royal Logistic Corps (RLC) Senior Soldiers to have been granted the position of Conductor, which is enshrined in Queens Regulations and endows those appointed with seniority within the Army and in their trade profession.
The first Conductor Parchment Ceremony took place on 1st June 2001 and the appointments of Conductor and Sub-Conductor have a long and prestigious history in the British Army.
The event is an annual occasion but very unique and this yearís event took place on Friday 21st June at the RLC Headquarters and Central Officers Mess in Deepcut. WO1 Neil Scott, 40, from Cowes was supported by his wife, Abbey and 2 daughters Elysia and Lauren.
Neil said:
“It is a great honour and privilege to receive the appointment as Conductor and work alongside the current 8 Conductors and to join those that have received this appointment since 1327.”
His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester, who is the RLC Deputy Colonel in Chief, was guest of honour and had the privilege of presenting Neil with his Parchment. HRH The Duke of Gloucester was accompanied by Lieutenant General M W Poffley OBE, who said, he was delighted to welcome HRH to the Ceremony and thanked him for taking the time to celebrate with the Corps in their achievement.

In addition to Neil receiving his Parchment, Abbey also received a bouquet of flowers in recognition and appreciation for the support she and had provided throughout Neilís RLC career.
Neil added:
“Following the ceremony I will be enjoying some well-earned family time to show my appreciation and support in return for the all that they have given me over the last 20 years to get me to where I am today.”
WO1 (Conductor) Scott is the Command Master Driver and Head of Trade for all Drivers within the RLC and is currently based at Army Headquarters in Andover. Prior to joining the military which he did in 1997 with the hope of travelling the world, doing something he enjoyed the most – driving, Neil was a Kitchen Porter, working at the local Royal Yacht Club in Cowes. There is limited past family history of family members having joined the services so Neilís love for the job certainly wasnít something he inherited. Those that did take to joining the Military, mainly his Uncleís, decided to join the Navy, this was predominately as a result of having lived on an Island. Neil added, “Since I joined the Army my brother decided to join the forces and I also have several cousins who have followed suit and joined the Army and Royal Marines.”
Reflecting on his military journey so far, Neil can certainly say he has completed what he set out to do and that was travel. WO1 (Conductor) Scott has completed operations in Croatia, Sierra Leone, Iraq and Herrick. He has also visited Canada, Falkland Islands, USA, several of the Baltic Islands Germany and Cyprus to name a few. Neil aspires to hopefully one day Commission into the British Army.
In his spare time, Neil enjoys riding motorbikes, canoeing, bodyboarding and taking in the scenery and wildlife and spending time with the family with a spot of camping. Advancing he said:
“I look forward to the addition of the appointment of Conductor, it will enable me to support and promote the great work and our RLC Drivers do.”
