Residents from Orchard House Care Home have enjoyed a memorable day on the water after joining friends from Vecta House Care Home for a special cruise around the Solent aboard an accessible powerboat.
The outing saw residents set sail on Wetwheels Hamble’s specially adapted vessel, allowing them to experience the freedom of the open water while taking in spectacular views of the Isle of Wight coastline.
With sunshine throughout the day, residents enjoyed close-up views of Osborne House, watched yachts sailing across the Solent and experienced the excitement of the boat picking up speed.
The trip was made possible by Wetwheels Hamble, a charity that provides accessible powerboat experiences for people of all ages and abilities. Its specially adapted vessel enabled residents to enjoy the experience safely, regardless of their mobility.
For many on board, the cruise brought back fond memories of family holidays, sailing and days spent by the sea, while for others it was an entirely new experience.
A spokesperson for Orchard House Care Home has said:
“Seeing our residents’ faces light up as we headed out onto the Solent was simply priceless.
“Experiences like these are about so much more than a day out – they inspire conversation, build confidence, create lasting memories and remind everyone that adventure doesn’t stop with age. We are incredibly grateful to Wetwheels Hamble and our friends at Vecta House for making such a special day possible.”
Orchard House has also thanked the volunteers and crew at Wetwheels Hamble for their care, professionalism and warm welcome, as well as Vecta House Care Home for sharing the experience.
The day formed part of Orchard House’s ongoing commitment to providing meaningful activities and new experiences for its residents, demonstrating that adventure and creating new memories can continue at every stage of life.
