Solent Beds & Furniture has announced that they made the ‘difficult decision to make 4 members of staff redundant.
Company bosses say that ‘consistent road closures’ and ‘ongoing economic pressures’ have influenced the decision.
The Island-based company has showrooms in both Newport and Lake. The county-town site – located on High Street – was opened less than 2-years ago. A family-run business, Solent Beds & Furniture, opened in 2006.
Island Echo understands that the decision to let go of 4 staff members was communicated on Friday last week.
Owner and Director, Vanessa Willetts said:
“Following a period of careful review due to the ongoing economic pressures affecting businesses across the country, alongside the consistent road closures affecting trade and customer access, we have unfortunately had to make the difficult decision to make four members of staff redundant.
“This decision was not taken lightly and was made to ensure the business remains in the strongest possible position for the future.
“Having proudly served the local community for more than 20 years, our focus is on entering this next phase of growth with stability and confidence, ensuring we continue to provide excellent service for many years to come.
“We would like to reassure all of our customers that the business remains strong, stable, and fully committed to continuing to provide the high levels of service, value, and product availability that customers have come to expect from us over the years.
“While there have been some necessary changes to realign the business, we are continuing with our popular May Madness promotions, with plenty of stock available and ready for immediate delivery.
“We would also like to thank our loyal customers, staff, and the local community for their continued support during this time, and we look forward to continuing to serve the area for the next 20 years and beyond.”
It is unclear which specific job roles are affected.

Too be honest nothing to do with road closures etc
Bad decisions by a clueless Government is the REAL answer.
Shoezone are closing down, soon there won’t be any shops left.
Sorry to hear this. Tough times for everyone.
Please may a make a suggestion – that in the Newport High Store please add some colour! Many times I’ve walked past and it has all been beige or grey so I’ve continued to walk past. Some bright coloured furniture please!
Great beds and really great service from this local company. Please don’t overlook, if you are choosing a new bed or furniture. It would be sad to lose another island business.
