Local business Solent Beds & Furniture are set to open a brand-new showroom in Newport tomorrow (Monday) – and ahead of the grand opening Island Echo was invited for an exclusive sneak peek.
It was back in July that the locally-owned business announced plans to open a brand new showroom in what was Poundstretcher at the top of Newport’s High Street.
With the leases at their Town Lane and Riverway premises set to expire the decision was made to merge the 2 together and open the brand-new premises.
A comprehensive internal refurbishment has taken place with the new store utilising the property’s upstairs which – accessed by both steps to the rear and a brand-new lift – houses the bed showroom. Downstairs, on the ground floor, is sofas galore. From corners to recliners, pillow back to standard back, there’s a sofa for you.
Also on offer are a variety of other furniture pieces including; armchairs, tables, desks, sideboards, cabinets, dressing tables and so much more.
The new showroom – like the Lake branch – features pieces from a host of brands including G Plan, Hypnos, Parker Knoll, La-Z-Boy, Stressless and Collins & Hayes; several of which are exclusive to Solent Beds & Furniture. Customers looking for a top brand bed can mix and match frames and mattresses to best suit their needs and affordability.
Despite the recent introduction of a national chain bed retailer in the Island’s County Town, the team at Solent Beds look forward to embracing the competition and are hopeful that the new location will encourage more ‘spontaneous’ footfall. Outside, on the streets, Island Echo readers said it was ‘good’ to see such a professional looking premises back on what can only be described as a ‘tired’ looking High Street.
A Solent Beds & Furniture spokesperson has said:

Solent Beds & Furniture is open between 09:00 – 17:30 on Monday – Friday and 10:00 – 16:00 on Sunday. Solent Beds & Furniture’s flagship store on Lake Industrial Way operates the same opening hours too.
