Isle of Wight firm Solent Beds & Furniture will be opening a new superstore on the High Street in Newport, it has been revealed. The premises was, until recently, the Island’s only Poundstretcher store but many Islanders will fondly remember Courts, the furniture store. Having been purchased at auction in June, work will now be undertaken to complete a comprehensive internal refurbishment to bring the store up to date. It’s not yet known when the store will open its doors, but Island Echo will update readers in due course. Solent Beds & Furniture is a well-established, independently-owned firm having opened its flagship superstore in Lake back in April 2006. The new site will complement the Lake store, allowing them to showcase the largest top brand furniture and bed collection locally. Both stores are supported by 2 separate large Island warehouses stocking many of their most popular furniture lines including mattresses and beds for fast and free delivery by their delivery teams. The current Newport sites – both Savoy Court on Pyle Street and Riverway are now offering re-location sales (whilst stocks last) as both leases expire later this year.

Makes commercial sense to do so as the other leases are ending
Great news – the High Street in Newport is slowly filling up again – rightly so.
Not so sure this is the right move unless parking is available and I don’t mean on the high street as when serious buyers are wanting to look they won’t want to pay for the privilege to spend time in the shop and have to part with more money
You only have to park in Morrison’s it’s not rocket science.
Morrisons won’t be happy, their car park is for
Morrison customers, not any Tom, Dick or Harry.
It’s a long way to lug a sofa all the way to Morrisons by hand
And if you are disabled?
Morrisons along with others are monitoring if drivers leave the site and can issue tickets now, it’s customer parking to use store, not pop up town and shop elsewhere!
