Isle of Wight indie trio, Ugly ozo, have released their latest EP ‘dive’, marking a bold new chapter for the fast-rising band.
Fronted by Jessica Baker, the project continues to evolve with the addition of Boo Baker on bass and Tristan Northard on drums. Together, the trio delivers a collection of tracks that blend raw, emotional songwriting with energetic indie hooks.
The EP, released on Thursday (1st May) via REX RECS, explores deeply personal themes, with Jessica describing it as a more serious and unfiltered body of work compared to previous releases.
Jessica Baker has said:
“It took a lot out of me to write dive. I think of it as stargirl’s despondent older sister – it’s more serious, disaffected, and less hopeful.
“I was going through a big period of change in my life, having gone through a romantic break-up, a friendship break-up, leaving my hometown for good, and falling in love for the first time.
“I really dug into the things I was experiencing during that part of my life, and it all came out in black and white on ‘dive’. It’s a record that really says it how it is and doesn’t sugarcoat anything, which I really love about it.
“It’s bold, ballsy and pretty on the nose – proving I’m still a huge oversharer.”
The release features tracks including ‘hi, how are you?’, ‘overkill’, ‘jackpot’ and ‘MISERY’, with the band receiving support from a range of music publications and radio stations.
Signed to independent label REX RECS, the EP was written and recorded at REX Studio. The band have already performed sold-out shows and are set to appear at festivals including The Great Escape, Dot to Dot and Gold Sounds.
Ugly ozo are also due to support label-mates, thistle, on their UK tour in May, followed by further live dates alongside CQ Wrestling.
The ‘dive’ EP is available now on digital platforms.
