Pip Smith from the Isle of Wight rode the Mountain & Moorland Ridden New Forest Pony of the Year, Vynnes Magical Edition, at the Horse of the Year Show in Birmingham on Wednesday (4th October).
The 7-year-old New Forest Stallion is affectionately known as ‘Mr Ed’ and lives with Pip on the Island during the Summer.
Prior to this outing, Pip’s best result at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) was 8th, so the win was somewhat unexpected.
Speaking to Horse & Hound, Pip said:
“We knew we had a nice pony on our hands, but this was so unexpected as he’s a bit of a joker.”
“We don’t do too much with him as he doesn’t like too much pressure; HOYS is only his 3rd show of the year.”
“He has his own way of doing things, and I just go along with it.”
