thedownsmotorcycleseriouscollisionairambulance11An Island motorcyclist who passed away over two weeks after a road traffic collision died of multiple organ failure after discharging himself from Southampton General Hospital against medical advice, the Isle of Wight Coroner’s Court has heard.

The Island’s Coroner, Caroline Sumeray last Tuesday concluded that 50-year-old Mark Ward from Ryde died on 31st March at St Mary’s Hospital, Newport as a result of the road traffic collision he was involved in on 14th March on The Downs, near to the junction with Knighton. After discharging himself from hospital against medical advice following some improvement, Mr Ward became unwell on 29th March and died just two days later. Mr Ward suffered from an enlarged heart and high blood pressure.

As previously reported by Island Echo, Mr Ward was travelling towards Newport when he went to overtake a vehicle, losing control of his Honda motorcycle before ploughing into an oncoming car. Mr Ward was airlifted to Southampton by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance with serious injuries.
