Freshwater lifeboat crew member James Metcalfe is set to walk 711 miles from the Isle of Wight to Germany this spring for charity.
James Metcalfe, a Freshwater Independent Lifeboat crew member, Scout leader and Round Table member, is preparing to take on an extraordinary 711-mile journey on foot from the Isle of Wight to Coburg in Germany.
The ambitious challenge is being undertaken to raise funds for Freshwater Independent Lifeboat and The Lily Foundation, 2 causes close to James’ heart.
Freshwater Independent Lifeboat provides a vital emergency response service along the West Wight coastline, while The Lily Foundation supports children and families affected by mitochondrial disease.
The fundraiser says the cause is deeply personal, with the children’s charity supporting youngsters like his nephew’s best friend.
“This isn’t just about the steps. I’m raising funds for two causes close to my heart – Freshwater Independent Lifeboat, who save lives along our coast, and The Lily Foundation, fighting mitochondrial disease for kids like my nephew’s best friend.”
The journey, which will take place this spring, will see James travel across multiple countries entirely on foot, documenting the experience and encouraging supporters to follow along online.
As well as raising awareness and donations, James is also appealing for support from local businesses, with sponsorship opportunities available to help cover the costs of travel, accommodation and food during the challenge.
