2 teenagers and a woman in her 60s woman were assaulted in Los Altos park in Sandown yesterday evening (Wednesday), leading to a police investigation being launched.
Police were called to the popular public park at around 19:45 to report an assault within the public space.
At the scene, it was found that 2 teenage boys and a woman in her 60s, all of which are locals from Sandown, were assaulted by a group of males.
It has been confirmed that 1 of the teenagers suffered minor injuries, whilst the other 2 people involved managed to avoid injuries.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
UPDATE @ 15:27 – Speaking about the assault, the mother of one of the teenagers involved has told Island Echo:
“The incident occurred when my son and his friend were walking home. The gang of lads that stalked them are known to the police and the area for their antisocial behaviour. The police have been informed previously of threatening behaviour from the group to both the boys.
“The police say they are investigating but have not took a formal statement from my son or his friend and, as far as I know, they haven’t taken a statement from the elderly lady that tried to help the boys.
“My son was punched 3 times in the face and his mate was hit in the face also. The gang threatened the elderly lady and kicked her puppy.
“The police were called and did not attend and when I called 999 I was directed to 101 and had to wait 1 hour and 8 minutes for an answer – to be told there is no imminent threat so the police will not respond.
“The crime going on around Sandown is disgusting but I think the police response is far worse.
“I now have the worry of my son being out alone travelling to college and back and also the fear for my daughter who attends secondary school.

General crime and violence, up up up on the island…..lots more to come, we are being infested with lowlife scum.
They’re born here, not moved here. Several generations as well. Not council housed either.
Well, obviously you must know them. Want to share their names on here?
Every single native Islander knows who they are. The “problem” families are well known.
The fact that you don’t know says more about you than Mark saying he does.
You cannot make a general assumption that every native islander knows who the low life’s are in their area.
Every major town on the island has local thugs, as does every single city and town on the mainland.
It annoys me intensely when some people constantly talk the island down, the problems that we have here are no different to the rest of the UK, except we don’t have people being killed everyday by shootings and knifings like they do in mainland cities.
I am a fourth generation islander and I don’t know a single solitary name of any undesirables, nor do I want to.
Anyone who lives on the island and doesn’t like it here, well the answer is in your own hands.
A growing yet still low amount of certain people here is why we have low shooting and stabbing incidents.
Watch the two coincidentally increase soon
Most people that live in council housing are good hard working people, unfortunately, it’s always a minority of lowlife scum that give council housing a bad name….I’m fortunate to own my house, but I never put people down who don’t own theirs…
I feel sorry for the young families that have no chance today to build a future for their families…
For once.I agree with you.
so it makes you so special if you own your house. prat
All Caulkheads
look at you not council house never mind one day your house will be paid for till then keep renting from the bank
I expect one or two of them are yours them???
I was born here, why should I leave just because of you lot…go back from where you came…
They’re breeding like rabbits too. Hopefully they’ll be out priced of remaining on the Island
Wrong. The number of children (15 and under) has been falling for the last 30 years and dropped by 8% in the last 10 years.
Will drop even more since the pandemic and the rollout of Vaccines.
Were you born here and lived here all your life, I was, how do you know the person you answered to was’nt. we never had this problem years ago!
This island is full of gutter rats now
i hope the poor puppy is ok 🙁
The puppy is now scared of kids and won’t walk to the park anymore
if that was my mum the last thing i would have done is get the police involved. they would have been eating through a straw for the foreseeable future
You lot swab let like a bunch of toddlers – overner’? Islanders’? – does it really matter – the point is does any one actually have any faith the police will do anything? Love to know the extent of their ‘investigations’ – it now seems to be just clocking in at the Nick as they never seem to actually do anything
If they had responded then might not then need investigation as caught red handed. Why do police do this in Hampshire?, Other forces see importance of nipping in before become a more serious crime, what message has this given to these young thugs who think they are big.
Should have told the cops there was a photo shoot opportunity in LA park. Might turn up quicker. Seriously though, whatever happened to our police force? Yea i understand there have been massive cutbacks in police numbers, but they only seem to turn up to major crimes. We need them back patrolling the streets, in twos. Crime needs preventing, better than dealing after the event when people have been hurt, or worse. Maybe it’s the joke sentencing given out ???
Police are bloody useless a lot of the time..these scum bags need a short sharp shock.
Kicked a puppy?
I think the majority of us will do worse to you if we knew who you are.
Surely pet loving men could arrange a mass meeting if these vermin are so known.
If the law is not bothering to trace them for assault and cruelty then think how much harder it would be to trace who in a dispersed gang paralysed a few feral rats.
count me in
Enough is enough how do we organise this then ?
Sandown should be renamed The Bronx.
I’d kick them the scum bags! Like to see them pick on someone who won’t take chavvy s!@?
what a nice island NOT i got off it its best thing i did will i go back No much better on the mainland.
Punched in the face + threats = assault + risk to life = serious crimes which warrant immediate attention and 999 response.
Surely the police must realise that the public response to their continual inaction will inevitably be vigilante action.
Which will put even more lives at risk.
Welcome to the “good old days” of the wild west folks!
No the police have not contacted the lady who was assaulted along with her puppy! Even though she spoke to them straight after it happened!! I was born here and lived on the island all my life we wouldn’t of dreamed of doing this kinda thing when we were kids! We had respect for adults and police etc. but it’s sad it’s now not safe to even walk your dog in the evening while still light. The poor puppy was traumatised after being kicked for no reason.
