A teenage boy is being sought by Police after he attacked 2 bus drivers in Sandown last night (Friday).
At just before 19:45, a drunken youth carrying a can of beer tried to board a Southern Vectis bus on Avenue Road. He made demands to the 55-year-old driver to go to Newport, but the driver refused due to the youth’s aggressive behaviour.
It’s at this point that the unidentified teen attacked the driver, who then had to be removed from the double decker bus.
Another Southern Vectis bus, which was travelling in the opposite direction, stopped to provide assistance. The 28-year-old female driver was also attacked by the youth and received minor injuries.
The pair were left shaken by the incident and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service was called to the scene.
Police were quickly in attendance as the local unmarked Armed Response Vehicle happened to be passing through the area having minutes before left the scene of a road traffic collision on Marshcombe Shute, Yaverland.
Passengers of both buses were alighted and witness statements were taken.
The youth is described as aged around 16-years-old, tall and slim with short, fair hair. He was wearing a dark hoodie and trousers.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says that work is ongoing to trace the youth and that they would like to hear from anyone with information. Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting 44220479251.

Big man! I remember my first beer
Busses are fitted with CCTV simply check that and post picture on here you will soon find him problem solved
Presumably if he’s under 18 he’s classed as a “minor” and publishing his picture without permission will break some law.
Bus has CCTV and voice recording,if we had regular local officers they would soon recognise, but alas we are short and alot of mainland officers covering Island shifts maybe not. Someone will know and drop their name or initials.
It is reported by mainland police that the island can not control anti social behaviour here, due to the lack of police powers. Quote.
Police need to be walking the Beat in Sandown to tackle crime.
Sandown is sadly becoming a NO go zone.
Shop keepers pay their rates and they deserve better.
This story is about two bus drivers, so where do shopkeepers come into the equation?
Because they pay their business rates in Sandown and sadly Sandown is becoming a
Sh*t hole.
Why pay business rates!!
What police?
Every year the Police on the Island want more Council Tax money from households
What are they doing with it!
16 years old!! what a disgrace to society. If my 16 year old son did that he would never be allowed under my roof again. Good job the buses have cctv and why didnt any of the passengers help these drivers?
My son was on this bus and reported that the insanely aggressive youth tried to get to the driver by breaking their protective screen. The heroic driver, in order to protect everyone, removed the youth from the bus and tried to calm the situation with him off the bus. He locked the passengers on board, so they were safe, personally I think this was so brave. My son would have been more than happy to help as I’m sure many others would have, and having to watch this incident further unfold with the other bus drivers injuries was not a nice experience and he was pretty shaken. He was travelling back from London and was saying how he witnessed no trouble anywhere and couldn’t quite believe this had taken place on his own doorstep….very sad
The bus had two teenage girls and few older people on board so no vigilante types unfortunately however my daughter did tend to the lady bus driver who was very distressed after having her teeth knocked out by the little idiot.
Good on your daughter for stepping up to help!
The passengers would get into more trouble than the offender ,because of the snow flake society we live in !
And Sandown residents Council tax will rise to pay for sxxx like this, who will scatter clones far and wide so the next generation has even more problems to deal with.
Needs a more powerful approach as jails filled like the UK to capacity by all and sundry
Bring back borstal I say or national service. They need discipline and that’s been taken away. Some parents are scared of their children and this has to stop. Kids should be scared of consequences and being in trouble with parents and police.
Surely they have him on Cctv?
Another piece of feral scum, a walking testament to the failure of birth control, when it arrives home drunk i bet its “parents” don’t call the police.
Parents are probably the same scum at it’s best!
16, with a can of beer wearing a hoodie and trousers. So pretty much the majority of most 16 year olds. Not much to really go off there. Where’s the CCTV from both buses?
Find him, hand him over to some adults that know what respectful behaviour is about, and let them teach a lesson in a sound proofed room;)
All the bus’s have cctv o them just put a photo out of the little end
Why is there so much crime in this cess pit of a town?
Where did he buy the beer?
They steal it..ryde has had some problems recently with drunk kids trying to steal more booze.
These scrotes want prison time not the normal slap on wrist & set free.
Nobody on here ever made a mistake in their life’s..?? By the looks of some of your names, most of you still live with your parents and your middle aged. so just shut up.. You have sent his country on a downward spiral.. Its your fault. Well done.. This is basically a kid. Is a different world now. You have a free bus pass and a house. car. pension. You vote for no change. Hurry up and do one so this country can move on.. Tia..
You don’t get drunk by mistake and you don’t attack people by mistake
What a prat ‘thedon’ is.. sticking up for the young scumbag and for what he did. Well done the driver for taking no nonsense and turfing him off. Respect to the young lady driver who stopped to help her colleague. ..Shame on all the male passengers on both buses for not helping out, lucky our overstretched cops were near by.. unfortunately I know from experience the driver may be disciplined for just getting out his seat to deal with him. Next time the bus is late or the driver isn’t as cheery as you would like, don’t moan, just think, a few minutes before he/she could have been verbally or physically abused.
The police give me a break they could be stood there watching the incident happen they would do nothing they would hide in a shop door way frightened and scared like iv seen them do in Cowes when something kicks off until a good Samaritan walks up and knocks the little twat out then the police would be all big and tough when they arrest the good Samaritan for assault and doing their job while they were to scared to iv seen it happen many times British police are a joke the whole country is a joke needs to drop this “great Britain” delusion.
Having read this report, I would guess that this young man’s parents must know who the report referred to. I can’t state that as a fact, but there can’t have been too many young men with the description given, in the state of intoxication he apparently was, trying to get to Newport. This indicates he may live in the Newport area. He is also obviously very brave – attacking a lady driver.
Why didn’t they just smack him in the mouth like used to be done in the old days to deal with low life.
Ok yeh, do gooders and the ass law stopping that deterant happening, which is why every town has a problem with scum like him
Something seems odd here! Many many stories being told of this incident!
People like bus drivers and others providing us with public services should be supplied with defence spray to deal with low life and feral brats like him. It is becoming a daily problem now in every town on the Island. Sod what the do gooders say, this is self defence against criminals. I suppose the next thing will the bulls*it about ”We can’t do anything because of his age” WHERE DOES IT SAY HE HAS TO BE A CERTAIN AGE TO BE CRIMINAL SCUM. It’s time this stupid law was done away with, it is encouraging youth crime and protecting those committing it from being exposed to the public, who have a right to know what feral scum is being allowed to walk our streets. Re-open Camp Hill as a borstal for the the feral brat problem on the Island
