The death of a woman in her 50s, which was initially treated as suspicious, leading to the arrest of a man, was caused by the consumption of a cocktail of prescription medication, an inquest has concluded.
57-year-old Joanne Clarke, formerly known as Joanne Croad and Joanne Tingle, was found deceased at her home address on Chestnut Close, Ventnor, at around 10:00 on 13th March 2023.
Forensic teams were deployed to the scene as detectives from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary launched a significant investigation.
The death was initially treated as suspicious, and a 47-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a vulnerable adult. He was later released without charge.
Now, 2-and-a-half years later, Senior Coroner Caroline Sumeray has concluded a Section 9C ( in writing) inquest touching on the death.
It has been detailed that Mrs Clarke died from mixed drug intoxication involving tramadol, morphine and 2 other drugs. Myocardial hypertrophy and ischaemic fibrosis were noted as secondary factors.
The coroner has recorded a conclusion of drug-related death.
Mrs Clarke was born in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, in March 1966.
