Traffic is heavy and buses are on diversion in Ryde Town Centre this afternoon (Friday) as a result of an injured pedestrian laying in the road.
The incident has occurred on the zebra crossing on Cross Street, at the top of Union Street.
All traffic is currently having to divert via Union Street.
No emergency services are present, but it is understood members of the public have called 999.
Southern Vectis say their buses are unable to serve between Cross Street and John Street at this time.
UPDATE @ 14:25 – The road is now understood to have been cleared with traffic able to proceed as normal.

Half the time cars don’t even bother to stop on that crossing! In too much of a hurry!
Not all pedestrians bother to look before stepping off either – it’s not always the drivers fault.
Where are the police need to sort speed in are towns
Cars do not stop anymore for crossings, I’ve tried using a couple in Sandown with a big buggy and people do not stop.
I often use that route in my car, and make a point of approaching slowly, and checking whether pedestrians are approaching from the other side of the 2 parts, and are assuming that one visual check covering both crossings will be sufficient. It isn’t. They need to stop at the second part and look again. Very distressing that, it sounds, someone got knocked over.
