A women who became injured onboard a yacht whilst sailing on the Solent was aided by Coastguards and RNLI volunteers earlier today (Saturday).
At around 11:50, Solent Coastguard learnt of the plight of the casualty who had fallen down the companionway of a 27ft yacht, injuring her elbow.
Cowes RNLI lifeboat was launched and escorted the yacht to Cowes Yacht Haven, where the woman – who was accompanied on the yacht by 3 men – received First Aid from The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team. You may also wish to consider taking part in first aid courses, especially if on the Solent this season.
She was eventually conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport.
That wasn’t the end of the action for Cowes Lifeboat though… As the lifeboat was preparing to leave the Yacht Haven, it was tasked to go to the aid of a 37ft yacht that had suffered a partially dislodged mainsail in the western Solent, near Lepe.
The boat, also with 3 men and a woman aboard, was eventually accompanied to Lallow’s Yard in Cowes.
After hours of battling through a strong easterlywind and often unfavourable tides in the Solent the lifeboat eventually returned to station at 15:45.

Huge shout out to the guys and gals of our lifeboats for saving lives in our waters xxx
Saving lives yes.
