Sandown Town Council is welcoming the installation of the new dropped kerbs at the entrance of Sandham Gardens and Grounds, on Culver Parade.
Town Mayor Gary Young said:
“The Town Council have supported this initiative for some time, which will enable wheelchair users and families with prams to have better access to the Playpark. We are grateful for the efforts of IW Council and Island Roads colleagues, as well as Heritage GB, for their support”.
Deputy Mayor Paul Brading added:
“We are very mindful of improving, where we can, the accessibility in and around the Town, and this is the latest initiative that will make a difference to residents and visitors alike”.
The Town Council have published plans for new accessible toilets at St John’s and Eastern Gardens, as well as made other investments such as a defibrillator and improved amenities at The Broadway Centre.
Cllr Young concluded:
“We are in the process of putting forward accessible initiatives in the forthcoming budget, as well as taking forward current plans which have been delayed during the pandemic”.

As a pavement Mobility user, it is hard to get round the town as most of the drop kerbs do not meet the road, so it is and has happened that the Mobility scooter tips, the whole of sandown needs to be looked at.
And probably the island, instead of reserfering the same roads over and over do the side roads you only got to look along st John’s or turnings off Broadway.
Can’t believe our elected councillors are so pleased with a couple of drop kerbs… Wake up there’s months of work on the footways and roads around Sandown…. As said by meme 1726 stop resurfacing good roads, roads and footpath repairs should be undertaken by condition not a set program…. Car parks resurfaced when roads are in a terrible condition unbelievable… Sandown is neglected by the Isle of Wight council the residents largely shunned by our own councillors the town plundered by some businesses and left in a deplorable state….. 26 million pound railway investment to carry people to Sandown and Shanklin for a staycation bonanza and happiness to our councillors is a couple of drop kerbs….. Wake up
