A yellow weather warning for fog has been issued with immediate effect by IW Met Service this afternoon (Tuesday).
Forecasters say that low cloud and hill fog will, at times, dip down close to sea level, significantly affecting the visibility in more Eastern and Southern parts of the Island between now and 09:00 tomorrow morning.
The worst of the conditions over the next 17 hours will be over the highest routes, especially the upper coastal routes. There is a risk of very poor visibility affecting The Downs between Brading and Newport, the Niton to Ventnor road, the coastal route from Ventnor to Shanklin and the road between Upper Ventnor and Wroxall.
Motorists are warned of reduced visibility leading to hazardous driving conditions, especially on higher ground.

It’s amazing this afternoon how many drivers didn’t put any lights on driving in the fog.
Strange that we went from Freshwater to Newport via Yarmouth then back via Godshill a nd Shorwell and didn’t see a shred of fog all the while except for over the downs. It rained all the way though!
