Police are hunting for the driver of a BMW that failed to stop and took officers on a pursuit the wrong way down a one-way street in Ryde earlier tonight (Monday).
Officers are currently searching the Star Street and High Street area of Ryde town after the driver of a grey BMW 1-Series made off from nearby Warwick Street.
Island Echo understands the driver failed to stop for a mainland roads policing unit which resulted in a short pursuit. The vehicle then came to a stop facing the wrong way on Warwick Street before the driver legged it.
The vehicle has now been seized by Police but the search for the wanted driver continues.
UPDATE TUESDAY – The driver of the BMW is still being sought by Police.
Hampshire Constabulary says enquiries are ongoing to locate the driver.
The vehicle has been seized.
Why is it so easy to obtain a car and use it illegally when the rest of us pay through the nose for insurance tax etc
Otherwise police would know who they are….
What’s the driver running for??? Up to no good. So many of these types on the island now. Shame.
I’m sure they will find him not arrest him and interview him at a later date just like they did with the woman that crashed and left the scene in ryde.
Bout time the police started sorting Ryde out, the place is riddled.
No point in commenting it just gets removed by the comment section Police
There seems to be a lot of boy racing idiots around with their spoilers on the back (tacky chav is here) racing over the Downs, they are brainless people of a different breed.
Must have done a runner due to having drugs, or drunk.. but maybe driver thought Police would not drive wrong way on one way road….lol…
I know it is a pain , but how about weekly spot checks.. BUT do not announce where over the web or even polivce band.. No doubt many dealers have a receiver..
