HSS Hire has shut the doors to its Newport branch for good, citing increasing costs associated with the Isle of Wight as part of the reason for its closure.
Although predominately a tool hire shop, at the start of the PFI contract the business branched out into traffic management and for several years carried out works on behalf of Island Roads. The team also supported a number of local events and charities, before winding down that arm of operations.
The hire side of the business has thrived over the past 25 years, but in recent times the additional costs associated with operating on an Island have taken their toll leading to Head Office making the decision to axe the store.
3 people have lost their jobs as a result of the decision to shut up shop, with the doors closing for the final time last Friday (13th).
It is unclear what the future holds for the commercial site on Hunnyhill, located beside St Mary’s Junction and Medina Way.
Earlier this month Island Echo revealed that 300 jobs are set to be lost at Vestas in Newport, with cross-Solent operator Hovertravel also eyeing up a potential cull of 17 jobs – all adding to a picture of doom and gloom on the Isle of Wight, with tougher times expected.
And the council’s and government carry on taking more and more cash from the backbone real workforce to waste on haur brained ideas while they push their pens with nice soft clean warm fagin fingers. And of course themselves. These dimwits don’t have a clue.
All part of civil servants requirements,

I think we can all guess. And, based on previous comments, Echo Editor Darren Toogood will be leading the calls for yet more housing and calling anyone who disagrees NIMBYs.
More homes for mainland imports. As long as the Council clerks keep there cushy numbers.
