UPDATED: Wightlink are advising customers that an hourly service will be in operation today (Thursday 2nd January) due to operational problems with Wight Ryder II following a collision on New Years Day.
The reduced catamaran service will depart Portsmouth Harbour at 15 minutes past the hour and Ryde Pier at 47 minutes past the hour.
UPDATE THURSDAY: Wightlink have this morning issued a statement following the withdrawal of Wight Ryder II.
A spokesperson has told Island Echo:
“The Wightlink catamaran Wight Ryder II has been temporarily taken out of service following a minor incident at Portsmouth Harbour station on the morning of New Year’s Day. Strong winds and rough seas at high tide caused the vessel to touch one of the fenders on the pier. It caused slight damage to the bow a metre above the waterline.
The sailing was the 09:47 from Ryde to Portsmouth with 47 passengers on board. No one was injured.
Bad weather forced the suspension of Wightlink’s catamaran service yesterday between Portsmouth and Ryde until conditions improved, and it resumed as scheduled as an hourly service using Wight Ryder I at 17:47. The Lymington-Yarmouth service was also suspended at that time because of the weather but the Portsmouth-Fishbourne car ferry was running normally.
A revised timetable on the Catamaran service is running today (2 January 2014) with sailings departing from Portsmouth Harbour at XX:15 and from Ryde at XX:47.”
Wightlink would like to apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause. Passengers concerned about their sailing(s) should call Wightlink reservations on 0871 376 1000.
