Police are on the hunt for the driver of a Toyota that jumped a red light and smashed into another vehicle, before then driving away.
It was just gone 11:00 last Friday (12th December) that a red Toyota Celica exited Church Road in Wootton, ignoring a red traffic light.
The distinctive car narrowly avoided being T-boned by an articulated lorry before then proceeding to smash into the side of a VW Transporter van.
Thankfully, the innocent Volkswagen driver only sustained minor injuries and did not require treatment.
Lushington Hill was closed in one direction for a short time as the VW was moved to the side of the road and the driver was checked over by paramedics.
The incident has left the VW driver with an insurance headache as the Celica driver failed to stop at the scene.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that the Toyota did not remain on scene after the collision, and that enquiries are ongoing to ascertain the identity of the driver.
No arrests have been made at this time.
Island Echo understands that parts of the damaged vehicle have been discarded elsewhere in the village.

When he is found needs the full law of the land thrown at him ..but as we know will only be a pathetic fine..poor sod in vw will have to declare that for next 5 years even though he’s not to blame..insurance sucks.
Shouldn’t be hard to find this vehicle as there aren’t many Celicas left
Nothing like being on the pulse for the Hants & IW constabulary, incident on the 12th and where are we now 17th, inspiring, NOT!!
I interviewed a chap for a job some years ago. He said ‘is there a car with the position’? I have a ‘silly car’ at the moment.
I did ‘fall in’ after a few seconds!
Time for IW Council to authorise islandwide
cameras on all traffic lights plus install CCTV
islandwide.
The infrastructure is jn place since the rollout
of gigabit.
Charge islandwide parking permit fees and increase
taxes etc to pay for what the island needs.
Yep, it is well known that every street light on the Island now has a network connection. Any network camera, and there are millions out there to buy on Amazon for instance, can be connected to the system. Go and do it, or perhaps there are already lots connected already. Look very carefully at those ¨LED´ lights !
Do you notthink we are taxed enough!
stupid comments from you as usual!
Red light running is out of control on the Island. I see at least one car every journey I make.
